The Services for Older Refugees (SOR) program is a case management program designed to support the integration, independence and well-being of the IRC's elder clients. Any IRC client aged 60 years or older can receive case management through the program. IRC caseworker Caseworker will tailor a plan and set goals to meet the client's needs. SOR services include assistance with applications for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other public benefit applications; assistance with affordable senior housing applications; scheduling appointments with medical providers and connecting clients with transportation to medical appointments through their insurance provider. The SOR Caseworker also makes referrals to other IRC programs and services as well as external partners, including the County Division on Aging to identify resources to meet individual client needs. Clients remain eligible for case management through the SOR program for up to five years from their eligibility date for services.
The New Jersey Division of Aging Services Guide provides information on services for seniors, including financial aid for medications, utility bills, and hearing aids, as well as housing support, transportation, meals, and health insurance counseling. Programs also provide caregiver support, adult day care options, wellness classes, and assistance for those with Alzheimer’s or disabilities. The division connects individuals to resources through county-based agencies, ensuring access to care and community-based services for residents across the state.
