Who can access our services?
The International Rescue Committee in New Jersey provides services to Office of Refugee Resettlement Eligible populations, this includes: Refugees, Asylees, Cuban & Haitian Entrants, Special Immigrant Visa ,(SIV) Holders, Survivors of Torture, Victims of Trafficking (click on each one of these to find more information about each status).
If you are a new client, you have to be a resident of one the following counties: Union, Somerset, and Hunterdon. If you are a new client and reside in any other county, click here to find your local Refugee Resettlement Agency.
What services do we offer?
One on one assistance for families facing urgent health, housing, or violence. Assistance with providing information and referral services within IRC and externally to address barriers related to housing, health, childcare, mental and emotional well-being, safety, and resource access. The program offers temporary monthly cash assistance to newly arrived eligible refugees and immigrants without minor children for up to 12 months from the date of their immigration status to support them until they become self-sufficient.

Offers assistance with emotional well-being and counseling, health insurance coverage, finding doctors, medical transportation, health services. This program is for All IRC clients up to 5 years after arriving to the USA. Call 908.274.1195 or visit the office during walk-in hours.
Walk-ins: 3 Thursdays every month from 9:30-12pm except on holidays, or staff admin days.
Offers English classes (pre-literacy to high intermediate level) and High school/GED support, college counseling, academic advising, and financial aid/scholarships. Available to all eligible refugees and immigrants up to 5 years after their arrival to the USA.

School enrollment for ages 5-19, tutoring, youth mentoring for ages 17-19, newcomer youth summer academy (in August). Services are available for any IRC client up to 5 years of arrival. You may request services through your caseworker.

Offers low-cost legal assistance, including green card applications, citizenship, work permits, and more. Services are available only to existing IRC clients (except for citizenship applications).
Green Card Applications/Renewals: For IRC clients with Refugee, Asylee, or eligible Cuban parole status.
Citizenship Applications (Naturalization): Available for all populations.
Work Permit Applications (Employment Authorization Documents): For IRC clients with Refugee, Asylee, Qualifying Parole (2+ years), or Asylum Pending (150+ days) status.
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Applications: For eligible Ukrainian Parolees.
Refugee Travel Document Applications: For IRC clients with Refugee or Asylee status.
I-730 Applications: For Refugees and Asylees to petition for their minor children or spouses.

Services include provide assistance with creating a resume, completing job applications, addressing barriers to employment, and job readiness training. Services are available for any IRC client up to 5 years of arrival or until self-sufficiency.

Career Pathways program: Support with career coaching and mentorship, job readiness training, obtaining certifications, referrals to accredited colleges for certificate programs.
Women in Action (WIA) program: Empowering refugee and immigrant women to achieve personal and economic self-sufficiency through education, leadership development through a 10 week program.
Scholarship program for IRC Clients: Individualized career coaching, mentorship opportunities, networking events, and ESL courses with county colleges, credential evaluation for several programs including CNA, HHA, Security Guard, various vocational trainings and workshops

Banking: Help with opening a bank account and understanding banking basics.
Credit: Learn about credit, how to build it, and get support with loans and credit cards.
Debt Management: Help with managing your money and paying off debts.
Budgeting: Guidance on setting financial goals, creating budgets, and paying bills.
Taxes: Assistance with understanding and filing taxes.
Services are available for any IRC client up to 5 years of arrival.

Offers services for older refugees and eligible immigrants ages 60+ up to 5 years of arrival. Services include case management, assistance with applications for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Senior housing, healthcare, and other needs. Click here to enroll!
Existing IRC clients with disabilities who arrived to the USA within the last 5 years may be eligible for Intensive case management services. The services provide case management services for individuals for 12 months (up to 24 months) to help particularly vulnerable individuals achieve self-sufficiency (The program is not a financial assistance program). To inquire, please discuss with your current caseworker.
Services are available for any IRC client up to 5 years of arrival.
Provides services for refugees within the first 90 days of arrival including culturally appropriate food, referrals for health screenings, cultural orientation, English training, employment assistance and other benefits
