Section 8 Housing (Housing Choice Voucher Program)
The program helps low-income families, the elderly, and disabled individuals afford safe and decent housing. Participants receive vouchers to help pay for rent in privately-owned housing. The program is funded by the federal government and administered by local public housing agencies.
Long Wait Times: Due to high demand, waiting lists can be very long, often several years.
Periodic Openings: Waiting lists open periodically, and itβs important to apply as soon as they do.
Local Variations: Each housing authority manages its own list, so availability and wait times vary by location.
To apply: Click here for information on section 8 or visit your local public housing agency.
